guts spilled edges (2025)

Workspace Brussels in collaboration with HAUT
Blending dance, theatrical magic, and text, Joana Öhlschläger and Lotta Beckers explore the emergence of scenes, characters, and atmospheres as both a feeling-based and feeling-generating way of working.
The residency builds on strategies for creating choreographic material and ruthless dramaturgy, in close dialogue with the concreteness of a room and its imaginary layers. It expands on Joana Öhlschläger’s choreographic practice of intuitive making within the tension between the obvious and the surprising.
By working through the awkwardness of the spreading body, the project develops methods to use spoken text as choreographic material—where meaning is only edged, and words become just another limb. How can sense arise through sensation—in the gaps, in the unexpected encounter of two unfinished sentences? How does the body leap in when speech fails?
Through cycles of accumulation and collage, Joana Öhlschläger and Lotta Beckers assemble a collection of choreographic material that seeks to make sense primarily through feeling.
