I want to become a surface. I want to pass as concrete, to be misunderstood, to become a blind spot. Camouflage is a military technique for hiding from an enemy. But who is the enemy today? The enemy has become a recognition system—a gaze that seems to already know. How can I use my body to create strategic images that confuse this gaze? Like a running herd of zebras that, in motion, becomes an untouchable body; like an octopus adapting to its surroundings; like a chameleon that sees everything around it without being seen; like a drag queen who confounds facial recognition systems.

Cryptic Behavior explores the disorientation of the gaze through a staged situation. Drawing on trickster figures from art, the military, and the animal kingdom, the piece seeks to learn how to disrupt order and open up the imaginary.
