Drawing on an archive of responses to love letters from his early youth, theatre-maker Onur Agbaba today reflects on his coming-out as a gay man* and asks what he was trying to perform in those letters. In the performance #Beginnings, Onur Agbaba and Lotta Beckers explore the tension between the intimacy of love confessions and their public revelation. Set alongside pop songs, the piece examines the quotational and performative nature of these letters, while also questioning whether we all continue to recognize ourselves in the pleasure of confession.
